The New Mexico Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program (VMLRP) was established to strengthen the veterinary workforce in rural and underserved areas by offering up to $80,000 in student loan repayment over four years.

The NMVMA Legislative Affairs Committee played a key role in supporting this legislation during the most recent session in Santa Fe, working closely with the New Mexico Department of Higher Education to ensure veterinarians in shortage areas have access to meaningful financial relief and career stability.

Eligible applicants must be licensed veterinarians and New Mexico residents providing full-time food-animal services in designated rural communities.
