About NMVMA
NMVMA is the statewide professional association for veterinarians—and a place where people come together to strengthen the profession and the care New Mexicans depend on.
Our mission
NMVMA promotes veterinary medicine and quality animal care through communication, fellowship, and the professional growth of New Mexico veterinarians.
That mission comes to life when people can find trustworthy information, learn from one another, build relationships, and help shape the conditions in which veterinary care is delivered.
Communication keeps people informed and helps NMVMA listen. Fellowship creates the relationships that make a statewide profession feel connected. Professional growth helps members keep learning, lead well, and respond to change.
Quality animal care is the public result. It depends on skilled people, healthy teams, sound policy, and communities that understand the role of veterinary medicine.

Who we serve
NMVMA centers veterinarians while building useful connections across the wider veterinary team and the communities veterinary medicine supports.
Across career stages, practice types, workplaces, and regions of New Mexico.
People exploring veterinary careers, training now, or beginning their professional lives.
Technicians, managers, and colleagues whose work makes safe, sustainable care possible.
Organizations working with NMVMA on animal, human, environmental, agricultural, and community health.
What we do
Each area supports the same goal: a stronger veterinary community and better care for New Mexico.
Member communication, local relationships, mentoring, volunteer pathways, and space to feel part of something larger. Connection helps useful knowledge move quickly and makes it easier to ask for help.
Continuing education, career resources, practice support, and lifelong learning for changing needs. NMVMA aims to offer choices that respect cost, travel, and time.
Legislative monitoring, member input, public education, and collaboration on issues that affect care. Real practice experience helps NMVMA explain the impact of a proposal.
How we are led
The NMVMA Board of Directors is made up of veterinarians from across New Mexico. The Board sets policy and strategy; committees and volunteers contribute expertise; the Executive Director coordinates the work.
Our 2024–2028 Strategic Plan provides a shared framework for decisions, investment, partnerships, and public accountability.
Leadership also means making room for future leaders. Clear volunteer roles, thoughtful onboarding, and open conversation help more members see a place for their perspective.
Clarity and trust
Membership keeps core association work moving. Grants and sponsorships can expand defined projects, partnerships, and access.
Member communication, advocacy, professional connection, current resources, governance, and ongoing education planning.
Additional staff capacity, technology, free access, evaluation, partner coordination, and broader statewide reach.
This approach keeps promises honest. Members can see the core value their association provides. Partners can see where support would add reach or capacity. The public can see whether a project is ready, still being built, or dependent on outside support.
One useful next step
Membership connects you to people, practical support, and a stronger statewide voice.
