The Power of We

New Mexico Veterinary Medical Association. The Power of We. Belong. Contribute. Thrive.

The Power of We brings New Mexico’s veterinary community together to support one another, share knowledge, and turn individual voices into collective action.

A community of care

More than membership.
A place to belong.

The Power of We is NMVMA’s member-driven initiative to make connection, support, and a shared voice part of the membership experience—not just words on a benefits list.

It is not one event, one committee, or a requirement to do more. It is a shared commitment: you have a place to turn, your experience matters, and your participation helps shape what NMVMA does next.

Membership supports the coordination behind that work. Members bring the ideas, relationships, and perspective that give it direction. Together, those contributions can achieve more than any one person or practice working alone.

Care includes the people doing the work. A strong veterinary community makes room to ask for help, share what you know, and support someone else along the way.

Belonging begins when people feel seen, valued, and connected.

What “we” makes possible

Belong. Contribute. Thrive.

These are not three more things for your to-do list. They are three ways membership can matter—for you and for the profession.

Belong.

Find colleagues who understand the work. Build relationships across communities, practice types, and career stages. You do not have to navigate every question or transition alone.

Explore member resources

Contribute.

Bring a question, an idea, or a perspective others need to hear. Help inform education, advocacy, mentoring, and service. A useful introduction or one thoughtful conversation counts.

Explore ways to get involved

Thrive.

Keep learning, build confidence, and find opportunities to grow. Share experience across generations so students, new colleagues, and established professionals can learn from one another.

Connect with the next generation

Different backgrounds, species interests, work settings, and seasons of life strengthen the community. Your way of participating can change as your needs and available time change.

From belonging to action

Your voice should lead somewhere.

The Power of We connects member insight to a practical cycle: listen, set priorities, work together, and report back.

  1. Listen to the people doing the work.

Bring forward needs through conversations, questions, and feedback. What is working? What is difficult? What is missing?

  2. Turn insight into priorities.

Member perspectives help NMVMA’s leaders decide where to focus attention, partnerships, and limited resources.

  3. Build something useful together.

Connect people and expertise around learning, mentoring, advocacy, leadership, and practical support.

  4. Share progress. Keep listening.

Explain what is moving forward, where more work is needed, and how member input can shape the next step.

Meredith Brown, DVM, PhD

“Through NMVMA, I’ve formed invaluable personal and professional relationships. The sense of community is truly remarkable.”

There is a place for you

Start with one thing that matters to you.

You do not need a title, a committee seat, or a big time commitment to be part of the Power of We.

Share what you need.

Send a question, a learning topic, a practice challenge, or an idea. Tell NMVMA what would make a meaningful difference.

Email an idea or question

Offer your perspective.

Explore mentoring, teaching, a short project, or leadership. Start with an interest and find a role that fits.

Find a way to contribute

Not sure where to begin? Talk with Kelli about your interests and what fits your time. Participation is an invitation, not an obligation. Staying connected counts, too.
