The New Mexico Board of Veterinary Medicine (NMBVM) plays a vital role in protecting the public and promoting quality veterinary care through the regulation of veterinary practice in our state. The Board also serves as a trusted resource, providing guidance and up-to-date information to the public, licensees, and applicants.
As veterinarians, we share a common commitment to advancing our profession and supporting animal health and welfare. The New Mexico Veterinary Medical Association (NMVMA) reflects that same commitment—strengthening veterinary medicine and quality animal care through communication, fellowship, and professional growth.
🐾 Serve Your Profession — Join the NMBVM
The NMBVM currently has a vacancy for a professional member on its Board. Under the Veterinary Medical Practice Act (NM 1978 61-14-4), NMVMA is responsible for submitting the names of five members willing to serve in this critical role. Two of your peers have already stepped forward — and we need three more to complete the slate for the Governor’s consideration.
Board members attend four or more in-person meetings annually, including regular sessions, emergency meetings, and rules hearings. They must understand the Veterinary Practice Act, related rules and regulations, and the state sheltering program. Members also review and discuss complaints filed against veterinarians, ensuring accountability and upholding professional standards.
This is a meaningful opportunity to guide the regulation of veterinary medicine in New Mexico and contribute to the integrity and future of our profession.
If you are interested in having your name submitted to the Governor for consideration, please contact the NMVMA team at nmvma@nmvma.org as soon as possible. The deadline is November 30, 2025.
