A Message from NMVMA President Dr. Adena Robertson: Looking Back, Moving Forward Together

Dear Colleagues,

This past year has been an important one for our profession—and NMVMA was proud to be your voice at every step.

Thanks to your support, we launched a new website and eNewsletter, responded to wildfire impacts with timely practice support, and welcomed a new Early Career Board Member to help shape our future. Together, we’ve made real progress strengthening veterinary medicine in New Mexico.

Our advocacy work also gained momentum. NMVMA introduced itself to all 112 legislators, held a successful Lobby Day at the Roundhouse, and helped pass the Veterinary Loan Repayment Act (SB 8), while defeating SB 412 to protect licensure standards and animal safety. March 10 is now officially recognized as New Mexico Veterinarians Day.

Looking ahead, we’re building more opportunities for connection and impact:

  • SWVS 2025: Join us in Fort Worth—NMVMA will host special events for New Mexico veterinary teams. Early Bird registration ends July 31 at swvs.org.
  • Expanded CE & Leadership Programs: Including Power of 10 and more statewide meet-ups.
  • Public Awareness & Long-Term Planning: We’re investing in the future with a 20-year vision shaped by you.

Your membership fuels all of this important work on behalf of our profession. It keeps our community strong, connected, and ready to lead. Renewals open June 2—please watch your mailbox and inbox for more information.

In advocacy, education, and community—we’re stronger together. Thank you for all you do, and for making NMVMA a place where New Mexico’s veterinary voice is heard.

Warm regards,
Adena Robertson, DVM
President, New Mexico Veterinary Medical Association
