Thank you to everyone who attended our NMVMA Town Hall on October 17th! It was a fantastic opportunity to reconnect and discuss important updates impacting our veterinary community.
Highlights of the Meeting:
NMVMA Overview and Purpose
President Adena Robertson, DVM, welcomed attendees, reaffirming NMVMA’s mission to promote veterinary medicine, quality animal care, and professional growth for New Mexico veterinarians.
Legislative Affairs and Advocacy
Jason Thompson, NMVMA’s lobbyist, and Dr. Ashley Morgan from AVMA shared legislative updates, emphasizing recruitment challenges, practice health, and the need for veterinarian advocacy. Dr. Manuel Garcia encouraged members to engage in grassroots advocacy.
State Veterinarian Updates
Dr. Erin Phipps and Dr. Samantha Holeck discussed state health initiatives and pressing public health issues affecting the veterinary community.
Programs and Member Engagement
Updates were shared on core programs like the Power of 10 Leadership Academy. Members were encouraged to get involved through committees, volunteer roles, and sharing NMVMA’s mission.
New Allied Member and Open Discussion
Donna Lopez from US Bank, NMVMA’s new Allied Member, provided an overview of banking services for veterinary practices. Members shared questions and ideas, covering topics from practice management to rural veterinary support.
